Great Christmas Party & Changes

We had a wonderful time at our Christmas Party and we are grateful to all that participated and brought food and books to share. Thanks to Jessica for hosting for us. We also enjoyed playing games and chatting afterwards. We discussed making a few changes for this coming year. We'd love all of your feedback on the changes that were made.

First off, I found a way to email all of you when the blog is updated. (I'm doing this to see if it works) This way we can make sure to check it when something new has been posted. Always on the side of the blog is listed where each month's bookclub will be held for the next 6 months (not set in stone). Also noted on the side will be listed the book we will be reading for the upcoming month.

Next, the night of book club has been changed to the FIRST THURSDAY of each month, except in January when we'll be holding book club on January 8th.

Another thing is that we are going to try an open discussion about once a quarter. Annette suggested it and I hope I'm getting the gist of it across right. We will all bring a book or books we have read or are reading and share our feelings about the books with each other. It will give us more variety and increase our knowledge of other books. Post a comment if this is not right Annette. We will be trying this for the January book club so that we will have more time to circulated the next book we are reading "Papa Married A Mormon".

Jessica will also be helping to update this blog so that we will all know what is going on as I will be moving sometime this month and I don't always have internet access. You all are able to update this as well if you all have anything to add.

Hello ladies! Just a reminder that our party is coming, it is this Thursday at my(Jessica's) house. We will meet at 6:30 and I am sending a sign up list so that you can help bring some yummy food! It sounds like we decided on a soup/potluck party.

CHRISTMAS PARTY!

December Part-tay!!

Just thought I (Jessica) would take a minute to update the blog and remind everyone about the Christmas party coming up! It will be December 18th and I was thinking we could meet at my house around 6:30. For the dinner I was thinking that maybe we could bring our favorite dish that we enjoy around Christmas. For example, my family has a tradition of always having a 7 layer dip before Christmas dinner is served so I was going to make that. What do you think? Good idea or bad? I am not sure about what else is planned so keep watching for new posts. I think we will still be having our book exchange which is always fun! Talk to you all soon!

Such Fun

We had a great time at book club this month. We discussed Ender's Game, discussed the next few months of meetings, discussed voting early and then played games til about 11:00 pm. We wish you could have all been with us.

NOVEMBER 21st Friday
We will be going to the movie Twilight at the Jordan Landing theaters.
It's opening night so we need to preorder the tickets. If you are going to go, please RSVP with $8.00 to Annette by November 5th. We will be meeting at Annette's house to carpool (time to be announced). We'd love to have you all come so if money is an issue, please call Jen.

DECEMBER 18th Thursday
Our annual Christmas Party is to be celebrated again!!!! We're all very excited. We want to do a potluck soup dinner (sign-up to come) and a book exchange. So bring a copy of your favorite book to be bid on with points like the service auction.
This will be at Jessica's house at 6:30 pm.

JANUARY 23rd Friday
We will be meeting at Sheri's house if available at 7:30 pm to discuss Papa Married a Mormon. If you have a copy of this book, please leave a comment so we know how many are out there. This book may be more difficult to find and we are hoping that those that have copies will be willing to share. Angela has a copy that she would be willing to share.

On the side bar of this blog will soon be added the rotation of hosting. Check to see when you have been listed on the rotation and see if you have any conflicts. Please let Jen or Angela know as soon as you can about these. Changes for October

We have been informed that Sheri is going to be out of town the night of book club this month. Therefore, Jen has offered her house as the meeting place for this month's book club. We'll discuss the schedule of hosting at book club.

Just a reminder that book club will be on Friday October 17th at 7:30 pm. We will be discussing Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card and Annette will be leading the discussion. Because we aren't going to be reading books for the next couple months, we will wait and submit in January.

After the meeting

At the September book club a lot of things were discussed. Angela proposed having a rotation schedule for hosting and submitting. She has a record of who did what for the last year and has suggested that we make up a rotation schedule based on that. She also suggested that whoever is hosting should submit which would simplify things. Everyone there thought it was a great idea and so we are going to try to put a schedule on the website so everyone can see when they will be hosting and submitting. If there are any conflicts we can rearrange things. We'd like to start the rotation right away beginning with Sheri if she is okay with it.

For October Book Club, this is what is happening.

November our regular book club night would be on Fri the 21st which is the opening day of the movie "Twilight". A lot of people want to see the movie and it was suggested that we go as a book club to the movie instead of having a discussion night. Everyone there thought it was a great idea. More details will be planned at the next book club meeting and we will want to pre purchase the tickets so we will make sure to get everyone in to the same movie.

December Thursday Dec 18th will be our annual Christmas Party. It will be at Jessica's house again and we will probably have a pot luck dinner and book exchange again. More details will be planned at the next book club too.

Because of this we won't be discussing a book again until January when we will read Jessica's submission of Papa Married a Mormon by John D. Fitzgerald.
